BRC - Global Standards for Food

BRC Standard is developed by the British Retail Consortium. It has been developed to assist retailers in fulfilling legal obligations and to ensure the highest level of client protection by evaluating companies supplying retailer branded foods.
BRC - Global Standards for Food

BRC Standards provide requirements in order to help company to control product supply chain from seeds supply, harvest and manufacture until delivery of products to customers. The standard also is required to update the statutory requirements and technology information of products help companies to ensure timely response to these changes, always provide safe products to consumers. One of the important requirements is that today customers want to know the product origin and BRC helps us this.
 
In 1998 it produced the first edition of the BRC Food Technical Standard and Protocol for food suppliers. This standard has been widely adopted to be used to evaluate manufacturers of retailers own brand food products. It meets criteria of Institute of Food Safety founded by CIES – Food Trade Forum, including CEOs and senior managements of about 400 retailers (operating in nearly 200.000 stores), a member of manufacture companies with different scales. In other words, this standard is mostly accepted by food retailers as well as other food standards IFS, SQF, HACCP.
 
Nowadays, The BRC Standards are widely used throughout the world by manufacturers and global retailers. They are considered as a ticket to enter the market and also a demonstration of commitment to food safety and quality and lawfulness in continuous improvement.
 
To conform to the standard, the suppliers/ food processing must apply 3 major standards of their management, which are:

  • Apply and implement HACCP.
  • There is an effective and documented quality management system.
  • Control the environmental standards of factories, products, processes and human.
